Kazakhstan, Iran and Russia sign MoU on wheat trade

961

Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran signed a memorandum of outlining cooperation in wheat trading. The signing of the memorandum is another step towards setting up a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Liter.kz reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Gulmira Issayeva participated in the signing ceremony on behalf of Kazakhstan. She noted that in recent years the Islamic Republic of Iran has banned the import of wheat from other countries because the country has attained self-sufficiency in wheat production. Iran produces 12 million tonnes, this amount meets the domestic need of the country. But the Iranian business is interested in importing Kazakh and Russian wheat for further processing and exporting to countries bordering Iran, which is more than 70 per cent of the global flour consumption.

On behalf of Iran the signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Ministry of Agriculture for Trade Development Affairs Ali-Akbar Mehrfard and other representatives of the agrarian companies.

The high status of the delegation of Iranian business circles shows their interest in the supply of Kazakh and Russian wheat.

Member of the board (minister) for trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Veronika Nikishina attended the signing ceremony. She led the negotiation process on the Agreement on the free trade zone between the EEU member states and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
